Remove the wild residents of the Ramapuram lake now, said Ngt

Chennai: National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the revenue authority to eliminate all encroachment along the Ramapuram lake.
In 2015, Greater Chennai Corporation, who maintained the lake, identified 250 families who had penetrated the lake area.
About 79% of the water bodies, initially spread over 7.13 hectares, have been banned by the house and shop, revealed data.
Civic’s body requested the revenue department in 2015, 2018 and 2019 to clear encroachment and submit the remaining lakes for it so further pollution can be prevented.
But six years old, Maduravoyal Tahsildar has not asked the part that is interrupted, the body of the Civic told NGT.
The corporation added that it worked with Tamil Nadu Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) and other related institutions to calculate families living on the ground that violated the limit and took a bio survey so they could be resettled again in TNSCB.
“If the civil body authority mentions this slum family and expelling 250 slum families, TNSCB can give them a plot in Perumbakkam,” said the Managing Director.
TNSCB is building 4,140 plots in Perumbakkam, scheduled for settlement this year, as part of the Pradhan Scheme Mantri Beware of Yojana (urban), MD told TII.
Corporations must pay the recipient’s contribution from Rs 5 Lakh per post (tentative).
When he heard this case in July, NGT Southern Zone ordered a water quality test on the lake by Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB).
On August 4, TNPCB told the court that the test results were waiting.
Criticized TNPCB for delay, NGT directed the board to submit a report before hearing September 3.
Meanwhile, the Civic body gave a sanction RS 93 Lakh to renovate the existing lake and had completed the construction of the leg walls, stone pitching and baby pool to increase storage capacity.
