London: England becomes wetter and warmer as a result of climate change, with the hottest 10 years of the country in more than a century that occurred since 2002, a report by a leading meteorologist said Thursday.
The annual “annual” “Climate Condition, published in the International Climatology Journal, said that the year 2020 was the fifth year and the third most third in the record stretched back to the 19th century.
The average winter temperature last year is 5, 3 degrees Celsius (41.5 degrees Fahrenheit), 1.6 degrees Celsius higher than the average 1981 to 2010.
The summer temperatures are 0.4 degrees above the average at 14.8 C (58.6 f) , with temperatures reaching 34 c (93.2 f) for six consecutive days in August 2020.
The report said summer temperatures in the UK are likely to reach 40 c (104 f) in the coming years, even if the world fulfills its purpose Limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial level.
The highest temperature ever recorded in the UK is 38.7 C (101.7 F), registered in Cambridge in July 2019.
Liz Bentley, Chief Executive of the Kingdom Meteorology Community , say the world has seen PA Extreme NAS as a result of heating 1.1 to 1.2 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial level.
“We tend to see 40 Celsius in England, even though we have never seen such a temperature (before),” Bentley said.
“When we reach 1.5 Celsius global warming, it is not only something we see once or twice, it will start to be something we see based on a much more regular.” Met Office Climate Scientist Mike Kendon, the main author of the report, said the numbers showed new normal for England, a country famous for changing weather.
“In seven out of the last 10 years, we have seen temperatures at 34 C in England compared to seven of the previous 50 years before that,” he said.
“So this is an indication of the fact that our climate base line changes, and what we think is normal to change.”
