Nagpur: Water security in the Yavatmal District can be risky if steps are not taken to revive and renovate the harvesting structure and refill, reveal the latest studies.
Reports titled ‘Harvesting and Refill Structures in Yavatmal Regency: Released according to the Institute for Sustainable Communities, examine the status of harvesting and refill structure and measure its effectiveness based on the hydro-geological analysis of the area.
The research findings show that more than 40% of the check dams have been built in the disposal area.
“Given that the main role of building the Dam Check is to increase the refill of groundwater, their construction in the disposal area does not serve the purpose.
Furthermore, it was also found that more than 35% of the Dam was checked, and 32% of the operating tank, damaged or intercused, “This study states.
The water body that has an area of more than 0.3 hectares has been mapped as part of the study.
“The main aspect of this study is to ascertain whether the harvesting structure and water storage in Yavatmal Regency has been built in the right location to be effective for refilling groundwater or surface storage.
A total of 686 structures consisting of 204 Dams, 211 Tanks PERGOLATION, 175 Ponds, water storage tanks and 96 reservoirs are mapped in the district, “said Romit Sen, Associate Director of Water and Agriculture Programs in ISC.
Cording to the local community, poor operation and maintenance of this structure are the main reasons for the current situation.
“It is recommended that a comprehensive plan for improvement, renovation and reconstruction of water harvesting structures and refill is developed for the district to ensure the long-term availability and sustainability of water resources.
This must include a plan to ensure its maintenance, involves the involvement of grams of panchayat and the village community,” said the research this.
In addition, adding that emphasis must be given to improving and renovating the examination of dams and market tanks lying in the refill area.
“Also, the focus is needed in ponds in the disposal area to ensure long-term water security for the Yavatmal District,” he said.
Vivek P Adhia, Director of the Indian Institute for Sustainable Communities, “Analysis and findings will help prioritize the efforts of the rise of various water harvesting and storage structures in Yavatmal.
This will also help decision-making plans to increase water resources in this district.” Protecting Security water – water security in yavatmal in risky harvesting and refill structures in terrible conditions – more than 35% of the dams and 32% of the Percolating Tank and 32%, good plans are damaged or violated-comprehensive for improvement, renovation and reconstruction The structure is needed
