KERI: At a rare event, a newly rescued hump-nosed pit viper at Valpoi has given birth to seven young folks . Even the hump-nosed pit viper is a venomous species of viper, endemic to South-Western India and Sri Lanka and usually found in moist and dense forested locations. Pradip Gawandalkar, a wildlife rescuer out of Valpoi, had saved the female snake kept it within a plastic jar, in which it gave birth. “After regaining the snake, I’ve kept it as it had been on the means of delivering. Seeing the arrival of their young ones has been an outstanding adventure,” Gawandalkar stated. Vitthal Shelke, that published the hump-nosed pit viper alongwith the young ones from the natural habitat, stated,”We’ve observed such snakes in the woods of this Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary of Sattari and contains heating and intra-red delicate pits in its own mind which help detect existence of creatures that are parasitic in the area.” After spending the afternoon beneath leaf litter and thick plantations, the hump-nosed pit viper is busy during nighttime and early mornings. The sting of this snake causes severe health issues as well as if not handled correctly and timely, will prove deadly for human beings. It’s a much more or less upturned snouts which gives it the hump-nosed appearance. The snake Hypnale hypnale, locally called Chapdo at Goa and Konkan, is ash gray or brownish in color with brown rings. It’s a reddish or yellow colored tail tip along with a vertical head. Nitin Sawant, professor of zoology in Goa University, has conducted extensive analysis on pit vipers species located in Goa. In his findings, Sawant says that pit vipers are found throughout the monsoon. The viper is located in cashew plantations article monsoon and through winter, chiefly because of the leaf clutter and thick plantations found that give it an great micro habitat.
