Coimbatore: Almost all dams in Coimbatore and Tirupur have approached their full capacity, thanks to excessive rainfall in the catchment area for the past few days.
When the incoming flow has increased, the water has been released from all reservoirs, including the Shollaya Dam, Aliyar, Thirttakurthy and Amaravathy.
PWD officials said the water level in the Aliyar Dam had touched 118.5ft against a full reservoir level of 120 feet.
About 440 cubic feet per second (cusecs) water is released from the dam to the river of aliyar and other 570cusec to the pollachi and vettaikkanputbur channel.
The water level in Sholalayar Dam has reached a full reservoir level at 160 feet and about 2.140cusecs water is being released from the dam.
The water level in the Thirmurmuryy and Amaravathy Dam Dam in Tirupur also increased to 49 feet (against a full reservoir level of 60 feet) and 88.5 feet (against a full reservoir level), respectively.
While more than 1,800 percent of water is being released from Amaravathy Dam, about 1,000 waters concentrated from the Dam ThirmuryTy.
