Residents in Noida complain power cuts

NOIDA: At a time when temperature is at 42 degrees Celsius with high levels of humidity at 28%, several sectors in Noida, including sectors 71, 52, 53, 51, 128, 31, 29, 28, etc., have reported outages for hours as well as intermittent power cuts, besides voltage fluctuations.
While technical snag in the 400kv substation was cited as the reason for Sector 71 area, overheating of transformer were reported from others.
“People remained troubled due to power cut and low voltage in Sai Apartment Society sector 71 last night.
The same problem happened from 1pm to 3.30pm on Wednesday after two three power cuts of short duration in the morning.
There was no information from the power department or update from the SDO,” said Manoj Kumar, resident of sector 71.
Anil Kumar Singh RWA president sector 53 also complained of a similar problem in his sector.
“In sector 53 electricity has fluctuated since Tuesday night and increased by Wednesday morning.
Many people complained of household appliances getting damaged.
It seemed there was a problem in the B block.
Just a week ago, there was an incident of fire in the transformer cable in A block park.
We have also written to the electricity department many times to fix the loose wires and replace the rusting poles.
No action has been taken so far,” said Kumar.
Colonel (retd) Shashi Vaid, resident of sector 28 adds that the power situation in Arun Vihar’s Sector 28, 29 and 37 remains grim.
“Disruptions range from 10- 15 minutes to hours.
This is a continuous feature more when there is inclement weather.
As summers peak, the power disruptions are getting only worse due to excessive unsustainable load on the old-dilapidated cabling, poorly maintained transformers and overhead cabling.
Even during the normal power supply, fluctuations are a regular feature causing breakdown of electronic and electrical items.
Response from the officials is totally unsatisfactory,” said Vaid.
While similar complaint were made by Vinai Mishra RWA president of Duplex Villas sector 135, Anjali Sachdev of Shatabdi Vihar Sector 52 and Parmod Verm RWA president sector 30, the Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association (FONRWA) have planned a meeting with the power officials on Thursday June 9 to discuss the situation.
When contacted VN Singh chief zonal engineer Noida power department PVVNL told TOI that there was a technical snag in a 400Kv substation which led to the problem in sector 71.
While at other places the issues were local.
“Current demand for power is about 800 Mw as industries, retail and commercial activities have been shut.
Since unlock, an increase of 90 Mw has occurred from Tuesday.
But despite that, there are no supply issues.
Power cuts in sectors are mostly local faults which are being attended,” said Singh.
