Muzaffarnagar: A retired police suspected of jumping into a canal near a village here and sank on Friday, officials said.
He was identified as Ramesh Chand, they said, adding that the incident took place near the village of Belda under the Bhopa police station area.
The police said he rose from the water and rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
Motives are being confirmed, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination, he added.
