Retd manager’s murder: 4 held for conspiracy

PATNA: Police have arrested four persons including the son-in-law Pawan Kumar (25) and daughter-in-law Nibha Devi (23) of State Bank of India’s retired deputy manager Shailendra Kumar who was shot dead inside his car on NH-30 near Bhikua under Fatuha police station area in rural Patna on Sunday when he was coming Patna from his residence in Biharsharif.
Shailendra (60) retired as deputy manager from SBI Bhagwat Nagar branch at Agamkuan in Patna city on February 28.
His driver Anil Kumar (55) was also shot in the left arm when he didn’t stop the car after being intercepted but survived.
SP (rural) Kantesh Kumar Mishra said besides Pawan and Nibha, police arrested Pawan’s brother Tinku Kumar (22) and shooter Amar Kumar (21) for involvement in Shailendra’s murder.
Mishra said a pistol, a live cartridge, both two-wheelers under in killing and three cellphones have been seized by police.
He said that all arrests took place from Ramkrishna Nagar police station area in Patna on late Tuesday night when Amar was going to meet Pawan to take money for the killing.
“Amar was paid Rs 40000 in advance.
Rs 60000 more was to be paid,” he said.
Mishra said the murder was fallout of extra-marital affair and dispute after Shailendra paid Rs 50 lakh to Pawan for a plot.
“Pawan was married to Shailendra’s mentally stable daughter as the latter had promised him giving regular financial assistance to look after her.
However, Pawan didn’t receive the assistance as per wish,” he said.
Mishra said that Pawan developed an extramarital affair with Shailendra’s elder son’s wife Nibha and they clandestinely performed court marriage in February this year.
“The elder son was physically disabled.
Shailendra had no knowledge about Pawan and Nibha’s affair,” he said.
Mishra said Shailendra wanted to purchase a plot for his younger son who works in a bank.
He said Pawan grabbed the opportunity and took Rs 50 lakh from Shailendra in the last four months in name of providing him plot in Biharsharif.
“However, no registry took place.
Finally, Shailendra decided to come to Patna to meet Pawan when he was killed,” he said.
SP said that police have documentary evidence of Rs 23 lakh paid to Pawan and Tinku.
“Investigation is on to know how the rest amount was paid and where it was invested,” he said.
He said Tinku and Amar were on a bike while Pawan was on a scooty behind Shailendra’s car on Sunday.
“Amar had opened fire.
He is a resident of Kankarbagh in Patna.
Police are looking for his criminal antecedents,” he said adding investigation is on to ascertain if any more persons were involved in the killing or not.
