Chairman of the Constitutional Court of MK Stalin on Thursday condemned the elimination of literary work by Tamil Bama’s feminist writer and Sukirtharani from the Syllabus of the University of Delhi and demanded universities to include works in the syllabus again.
In a statement, Stalin said that literary works of Bama writers and Poet Sukirtharani should not be seen through political and religious prisms.
“Removal of the command of the supervision committee without the knowledge of the professor of the department is arbitrary.
It is not acceptable to every count,” he said.
“Practice seeing Bama’s writings and Sukirtharani who talked about women’s rights, the release of suppression and human dignity through prisms Party and religious politics must be dropped.
I urge the government of the Trade Union and University of Delhi to enter their work again in the syllabus, “he said.
The author of Bama and Sukirtharani who have expressed their displeasure for transfer, however, said that blackened the voices that were oppressed regularly and therefore removal was not surprising .
“The elimination of our works from the Syllabus of the University of Delhi is sad.
I feel removing these writings is not true.
But I was not surprised – because this kind of faint has happened regularly, “Sukirtharani said.
The Academic Council of the University of Delhi who met on Tuesday deleted Bama’s writing titled ‘Sangati’ and Sukirtharani’s Works ‘Kaimmaru’ and ‘en Udal,’ from the English BA syllabus (Honors) on the recommendation of the Supervisory Committee despite the opposition from many board members.
While the poem Sukirtha Rani Kaimmaru and en udal each about manual scavengers and around a woman’s body, Sangati Bama is about traveling from Dalit Women.
A short story titled Draupati written by the author of Bengali Mahesweta Devi was also removed by the Board.
“There must be politics in it.
If our work was replaced by writing writers Dalit, then fines.
