Lucknow: By nodding the cabinet to Uttar Pradesh Solid waste (management, operation and sanitation) rules on Thursday, will soon be mandatory for the household to separate waste on the source and for local bodies to the door-to-door.
The new rules also set a penalty for violating the provisions of the 2016 solid waste management rules, including littering in public places, making pets defecating in public places and throwing construction waste on the roadside.
All waste must be separated from sources into three categories – biodegradable, non-biodegradable and domestic.
It must be stored in different trash can according to their category.
Waste such as pads and sanitation diapers must be discarded according to the instructions for certain local bodies.
An official said the state government was forced to express these rules since it was observed that the local body did not state bye-laws which were required based on the rules of 2016.
“Bye-laws is needed for the implementation of solid waste management rules, but both urban local bodies that formulate regulations This bye also did not implement it satisfactorily.
As a result, the purpose of the SWM rules was defeated and no sanitation was maintained, “the official said.
The state produces 14,468 tons of solid waste every day and the responsibility for collecting and managing the vest with an urban local body.
Among non-biodegradable waste, the local body must identify what can be recycled and ensure that it is supplied to an official recycler.
Biodegradable or wet waste must be composited or treated through bio-methanates for fuel production.
In the area where waste is different from what is determined for the three domestic categories produced, such as butchers and meat shops, waste must be stored in a separate closed tray and should not be mixed with other waste.
