Ranchi: Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is ready to become the 12th center in the country to carry out kidney transplants.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Director of Rims Dr.
Kameshwar Prasad said: “We all have witnessed an increase in kidney failure because Covid-19 because the virus has affected some vital human organs.
Because human organs are not something that can be obtained or regenerated, we need to promote Organ donations.
Given all this we will start the kidney transplant in the rims.
“Dr.
Prasad said they would need additional workers for transplantation and have started the process to employ a special surgeon for that purpose.
The rims will also start a 25 bed dialysis unit within one month after which transplant will begin.
As part of their efforts to start kidney transplants, organ organizations transplantation and state networks (Sotto) have been established on the campus of the rim.
The College administration has sent a proposal to the President Director of Health Services for approval.
Speaking with Toi, Assistant Professor of the Anatomi Department, Dr.
Rajiv Ranjan, who has made Nodal officers for this program, said: “With the formation of Sotto, we have started our journey to the first kidney transplant in the rims.
After we get the approval needed, because management Hospitals have initiated the recruitment of the workforce needed, we will start a transplantation.
