Bengaluru: The third wave of Covid is likely to peak on January 25 in Bengaluru, with a daily fresh infection touching 35,000 cases, Bruhat Bengaluru Palike (BBMP) officials told Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai during a pandemic meeting on Monday.
The city reported 25,595 new cases on Tuesday, taking active cases throughout the state to almost 1.8 lakh.
The fuelp projection at peak is based on week-on-week hikes, which is around 250%.
While the BBMP has not determined the dominant variant circulating, the source suggests it is Omicron, given the majority of infected people report high fever, congestion, body pain and cough for a brief duration.
Two independent data trackers told Toi: “It seems that almost every other household will have at least one positive case during the third wave.
It won’t be surprising if the daily count crosses 35,000.
If we factor in those who do covid themselves at home without coming in Under BBMP radar, the daily count will be much higher.
“Bengaluru reported 810 positive cases on January 1 and the number jumped to 6.812 on January 7 before touching 22,224 on January 15.
Data from the last 15 days shows Bengaluru reported a daily average of 8,800 new cases.
