Rise in hooghly mud threatening water supply to cabbage

Kolkata: a sharp increase in mud in water hooghly threatening surgery on three main processing plants that supply water to households in Kolkata.
The century century factory located in Palta, 22km from Kolkata, which serves up to a third of the city’s population, is the worst with increasing turbidity or suspended particles in water from Hooghly.
Going with a note in Palta Waterworks, the level of turbidity has surged almost four of the 700 nephelometric (NTU) (NTU) turbidity units (NTU) during September to 2,500 NTU on Saturday night.
“We were surprised to see the level of turbidity and initially, we thought it was because of the incidents of upstream isolated.
But still static since then,” said the KMC water supply department official.
The suspended particles in the high volume have threatened the function of the water treatment unit in Palta.
Plant engineers worry about damage to the machine in the sedimentation tank zone.
According to a KMC engineer, if whatever machine develops obstacles, it will be difficult for the Civic body to supply safe drinking water to most of the city.
“Some machines work to ensure the right water filtration.
We are very careful and try to protect the machine.
If there is a disturbance, it will lead to the water crisis in the city,” said a citizenship official.
Slow sand filtration beds at the Palta Water Treatment Plant have proven to be a savior at this crisis clock.
“This is because the slow sand bed we have to maintain our factory operations.
This bed actually helps in the absorption of high mud volume and maintain operational our plants,” said citizenship officials.
In addition, plant engineers use large amounts of alum as coagulant to make water safe to drink.
Careful exercises have slowed the filtration process and reduces water supply to stretch North and Central Kolkata.
Likewise, the KMC engineers in the park reached a water treatment plant and the Dhapa factory worked overtime to supply safe drinking water to most South Kolkata and Em Bypass.
Chairman of the Council of Administrator KMC Firhad Hakim on Tuesday convinced citizens that the Civic body engineer worked overtime to supply drinking water that was safe to the population of the city.
The judge expressed hope that the situation would be normal in three more days.
