Dehradun: Two senior employees of the BPO center based on Noida were feared dead after they were washed away by Ganga in Rishikesh on Sunday.
Rahul Singh, 33, is the Head of the Synergy of Adroit Private Limited in Noida.
Bhanu Murti, also 33, is a manager there.
They, along with seven others, were on a weekend trip to Rishikesh.
“The group reached Rishikesh on Sunday morning and checked a hotel in Tapovan.
They walked to the main city when the accident occurred near Ram Jhula,” said Inspector Kamal Mohan Singh Bhandari, who was responsible for the Muni Ki Reli police station.
“Rahul entered the river to wash his hands.
He lost his balance, slipping and fell into the river.
When he washed away, Bhanu jumped to save him.
He was also swept away with a strong current,” Sunil Kumar, their colleagues who are also on their way with them, said to Toi.
“Don’t know how to swim.” Rahul comes from Bulandshahr and has lived in Noida with his wife and two children.
Bhanu comes from Delhi.
Group members reached the police station and reported this case.
The State Disaster Force Response Team (SDRF) was sent with a motorbike raft to find lost people.
“Search operations continue until Sunday night,” said an official of the SDRF.
“The Ganga water level has been near a danger with a strong current due to the rainy season, making it very dangerous for anyone to roam into the water.” Last month, three students from Mumbai had drowned while bathing in Ganges in Haridwar – one of them dropped deep into the water and sneaked, two other people swam towards him to help him and all died.
