PANAJI: The price of traditional bread that is homedelivered (PAO) will rise by Re 1 and will cost Rs 5 per piece from October 1.
The announcement was made by the President of All-Goa Bakers and Confectioners Association, and Peter Fernandes, and the All- Association Goa Bakers, led by Agapito Menezes.
Menezes said that the decision for this effect was taken at the executive committee held in September 5.
The last traditional Pao price occurred from Rs 3 to RS 4 in August 2016.
“Goan Bakers struggled to meet the needs.
We are a different and unique business.
All prices Raw materials have increased.
There is no respect given to our profession, “Fernandes told Toi.
Fernandes regretted the fate of traditional baker and, in representation to the government, stating that the government has supported various traditional communities including fishermen, trawlers, farmers, people affected by mining, coconut owners, etc., but not traditional bakers.
Menezes said that it was not profitable for most baker to make bread exclusively, and about 40% had been extended to sugar.
Almost all traditional bread makers use firewood, and this association has several meetings with the government in the past seeking financial assistance to be able to improve their small bakery, but after more than twenty meetings, nothing happened.
Most businesses run by family members without an upgrade or welfare scheme, Menezes said.
Fernandes, in the representation to the government, has demanded subsidized firewood, a single-window system that is simplified to repair the old bakery, financial support for bread makers after retirement, retirement, special quota to recognize children bakers in college catering, and another.
He also looked for cessation of baker from neighboring countries carrying bread products, including PAO, to Goa, and bread-making company settings to help soft loan makers for machines, modern training, and relegation, and relegation of old dilapidated bread.
