Hyderabad: The State Health Authority said that the increase in the case of mental health problems in the middle of the pandemic was a time bomb beating because the country only had a small collection of mental health professionals to deal with the situation.
Telangana estimated 200 to 250 trained mental health professionals and only 20 hospitals in 10 districts outside Hyderabad.
“Most of these hospitals are run by individual psychiatrists and have a capacity of 5 to 10 beds.
In Hyderabad, there are around 10 hospitals, at least some of them are larger centers including the Institute of Mental Health, Erragadda.
Also, some houses Pain is mainly an addiction center, “said Dr.
V Rakesh, President, Telangana Aarogyasri Network Hospital Association (Tanha).
The problem is expected to grow for the next two years and even though there is an effort, the state authority recognizes that it is the cause.
“The most serious problem now is a mental health problem.
It has surpassed all the other Post Covid-19 complications.
This is a serious cause of concern because symptoms start within three months are infected and may last up to two years.
We tried to put a certain system in its place.
Health care will try to assess physical and mental health status every time they visit households.
Even those who come to the hospital are assessed and special psychiatric clinics have been established in the district for this purpose, “said Dr.
G Srinivasa Rao, Director, Public Health , Telangana.
The previous state health department has identified almost 90 psychiatrists (doctors and resident doctors) at the government hospital to deal with the problem.
Meanwhile, the doctor saw Covid-19 patients say that the mental health impact was seen in 80% of patients even though many patients continued to resist care because of stigma attached to mental health problems.
“Patients in the ICU are the worst affected because every death around them leaves a trail on them.
Many cries without stopping and entering into depression in a day accepted.
Even when they are cured and return to assessment, they continue to show symptoms of severe depression,” said a doctor at Gandhi Hospital.
