Coimbatore: The Southern Railway has delayed his decision to continue the train every day between Thiruchendur and Pollachi.
This service is set to operate again from Wednesday.
The decision was made on Monday, a week after Southern Railway announced that the express train, which was stopped after the Covid-19 outbreak would continue.
As soon as the train made the announcement, the train user association in Pollachi, Kinathukadavu, Coimbatore and Mettupalayam sent representation of finding an extension of Tiruchendur to Train Pollachi to Mettupalayam through coimbatore.
Even though it could be one reason to delay the resumption of train services because changes needed to be carried out in the train time and logistics related, senior officials with the Palakkad train division said the reason for sure to be communicated.
Pollachi member Lok Sabha K Shanmuga Sundaram has also made a representation to the General Manager of the South Railway John Thomas last week looking for a train service extension at least until Coimbatore.
He said there was no train directly to Coimbatore from the southern district on the route Palani – Polachi.
It will also help worshipers from the southern district to visit Marudamalai, which is considered one of the six abyss of Murugan God.
“While the train is used to abolish from Thiruchendur, which is under the Madurai division, to the Polachi in the Palakkad Division, there are several factors including timings, maintenance and possibilities of protection that will be considered before operating train services,” said the train official.
Previously, there was a passenger train from Palakkad to Tiruchendur on the route Palanchi-Punai-Madurai.
The train has made a policy decision not to operate long distance passenger trains after Covid’s pandemic.
So, the passenger train was recently introduced from Palackad to Polarchi and other trains to be operated between Pollachi – Tiruchendur as an express train.
