Ranchi: Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has identified more than 200 illegal buildings built in water catchments from various water bodies and in other parts of the city and serve notifications to some of them for demolition.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Commissioner RMC Mukesh Kumar said that the Civic body did not target anyone and only followed the provisions of the Jharkhand Municipality Law, 2011.
“With the power given to RMC with Section 437 (4) from Jharkhand Municipality Act , it is the mandate of the Civic’s body to destroy each illegal structure within its limits.
The order has been passed after following the legal procedure, “Kumar added.
Anti-encroachment drive came after recent direction by the city court which ordered the dismantling of illegal structures within the RMC command area.
In recent months, the court has heard more than 600 cases regarding the encroachment of the Civic body area.
Even now, hundreds of cases like that were delayed before the court when the aggrieved party had sought time to get the documents needed to be produced before the court.
A total of 175 illegal buildings have been identified in the catchment area of different water bodies.
“A total of 74 have been identified in Kanke, 70 around the Hinoo River and 30 around Bada Talaab,” Kumar said.
Asked whether the hospital would also be under the anti-encroachment drive, Kumar said, “We cannot let the illegal structure there just because it is used for charity as with that principle, we must leave everyone.
We have received several requests to review the decision Which quotes some unexpected reasons and we have provided time for everyone based on cases per case.
But if they fail to produce documents needed to strengthen their claims, the RMC will continue his decision.
“Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor of Sanjiv Vijayavargya, expressed up displeasure Encourage demolition at the famous city address.
“I have known the oldest hospital in the city, Self Sadan, has served notifications to be destroyed in two weeks.
This is truly not practical and the state government must bring provisions to regulate this type of building,” Vijayavargiya said.
