Ghaziabad: Chief Medical Officer Dr.
Bhavtosh Shankhdhar has written to the District Administration after a sample of water collected from at least 35 companies, including RO and hotel factories, failed to test safety standards.
Water sampling tests are carried out by the Ministry of Health, in joint operations with various civil bodies, between September and October in all districts.
Nearly 80 samples of a total of 325 water samples were collected by the regional public health laboratory this year since January, failed the hydrogen sulfide test (H2S), showed that drinking water contained e.coli bacteria, officials said.
“E-coli which causes dysentery and other abdominal diseases found in Air 15 Air RO suppliers and 18 hotels in the city.
This RO water plant provides water to thousands of houses.
The administration will take further action,” said the DR RK District Supervision Officer, Dr.
RK Gupta, Adding that the Ministry of Health will continue training in the coming days.
“Apart from abdominal disease, this water use is not even good for the skin,” he said.
Dr.
Gupta added that around 200 samples were collected during a special two-month drive.
Health department officials have now intensified testing in various schools, housing communities, restaurants and RO water suppliers.
In September, several leading schools in Indirapuram and Raj Nagar, housing society groups and several RO water suppliers who provide water to homes and restaurants in the city have failed the H2S test.
One of the main reasons for water contamination, the expert said, is mixing drinking water with gutter water through errors in their respective pipes.
