Kolkata: The police have recorded a case of alleged robbery in a medium-century old residential building in Chhidam Mudi Lane at Hatibagan between 15:00 and 3:30 a.m.
on Tuesday.
The complainant, a 29-year-old housewife, alleged that the defendant stood near almyirah from his room when he saw it for the first time.
When he raised the alarm, the defendant allegedly stabbed him in his hand and fled with ornaments and cash worth around Rs 2.3 Lakh.
The police have not ruled out the possibility that the woman might have been persecuted.
The police said that the victims lived in the building with her husband, a senior private hospital employee in the Jadavpur area, her son and mother-in-law.
“According to the victim, he went to the restroom and when he came out, he found that the almyirah in his room opened and a man tried to steal valuables.
He was stabbed by the defendant before he escaped through the main door,” said a police officer.
“We have checked CCTV’s footage and talked to his neighbor.
The victim was still surprised on Wednesday when our team met him.
There are several missing links that are important for investigations,” said Bidisha Kalita, DC (EB), who now holds division charges north.
Detective department officers also visited the place and conducted detailed investigations on Wednesday.
The incident that occurred in the middle of the North Kolkata region that was jammed during the day had left the neighbors by worrying about security issues.
However, there are some questions and unanswered police believes that there is something more in this matter than what comes so far.
“Why does someone have to use the main door, the only way in and out? There is no one else in the house that can see or hear something suspicious.
We have registered a case and all local criminals are rounded,” said an officer.
When talking to Toi, the victim’s husband refused to divulge much besides the facts about how the incident happened.
“At this time, I don’t want to talk much about the incident except that my wife was injured and still traumatized.
I will talk after my work hours,” he said before breaking the phone.
