Mumbai: The BCCI Senior Selection Committee, led by former Indian Bowler Chetan Sharma, on Wednesday appointed the opening of Batsman and Deputy Captain of Rohit Sharma White Ball Sharma as captain of a team of one day and T20 India advanced.
The decision came less than three months after TI first reported that the captain now, in all formats, Virat Kohli was interested in going down as the white ball captain.
On September 16, three days after the Toi report, Kohli had put out social media messages to go down as the T20 captain but not a 50 over format.
Towards announcing the T20 squad for the home series against New Zealand, BCCI appointed Sharma as the captain and new T20 source, “The board is now convinced that the white ball captain cannot be divided”.
Kohli too, the source said, had decided that he would stop as captain in both formats to concentrate on his punch and continue to lead the test team where he did very well.
