Mumbai: A Romanian citizen was arrested by the recent Oshiwara police to clone resident ATM cards and use card details for misuse of their money.
The police confiscated 166 ATM cards other than equipment used for cloning cards from it.
A team from Police Oshiwara patrolled when they saw a foreign national moving suspect at the ATM kiosk in the Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri.
When the police questioned him, he gave a dodged response.
The officer then fell and found the nine ATM cards, nothing belonged to him.
He was transported to the Oshiwara police station and was questioned.
Romania, who was identified as a nedelku Valentine Evonut, 38, told officers that he had stolen data from the ATM card entered by citizens who did not suspect at the ATM kiosk.
Of the total 166 ATM cards found to him, 72 cloned.
In June 2021, Evonut was allegedly misused RS 60000 belonging to a suburban woman after cloning the card and using it online.
The woman came home when she received the text from her bank about the money debited from her bank account.
He then filed a police complaint.
“We confiscated three laptops, card-swiping readers, two currency calculation machines, four cellphones, eight hidden cameras connected USB, memory cards, and card cloning equipment worth collectively at Rs 2.09 lakh from Evonut,” said an official.
In the past, Evonut had been booked in Dahisar, DN Nagar, Vinoba Bhave Nagar, Dombivali, Marg, Bandra, and the Navghar police station at Mulund.
