Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) plans to build a Ropeway to connect the Vaishali Metro station on the blue line with Mohan Nagar in red.
The previous development authority had planned the Metro corridor to cover 4.5km stretch, but dropped the idea because it proved too expensive.
GDA has hired private agents to prepare detailed project reports in a month.
Officials say while the Metro corridor will cost 1,800 crore Rs, a Ropeway can be built for around Rs 450 Crore.
“In December last year, Ghaziabad MP Gen VK Singh (REPD) has asked officials to explore the Ropeway options between two stations.
The idea was valued at the highest level in Lucknow and we were asked to prepare a feasibility report,” said an official.
Development authorities have contemplated the idea of the Ropeway for two other routes.
They are Metro Station Noida Sector 62 to the Vaishali Metro Station and Shaheed Stal (bus bus) to the Ghaziabad train station.
“The Vaishali route to Mohan Nagar was chosen because this is a straight line and there is enough space along the median to run the Ropeway,” said Ak Choudhary, a senior official in knowing the Ropeway project.
Ropeway, officials said, would be like the others looking at the hill station.
“The actual costs of the project can be known only after the DPR has been submitted.
But even if the project costs exceed the estimated RS 450 Crore, it will be much cheaper than building the Metro corridor,” Choudhary said.
Although better details are being worked on, officials say Ropeway – 4.4km long – will have two intersections in Vaishali and Vasundhara for passengers to the council.
“About 10 Ropeway taxis, with 15 people’s seating capacity in each, will operate in the corridor.
They will be available every three minutes,” Choudhary said.
Travel time between Vishali Station and Mohan Nagar is estimated to be less than 10 minutes.
On the road, it takes about half an hour to cover distance.
Experts are nicknamed ambitious projects.
Ratnesh Singhal, Jalan Consultant and Design based in Ghaziabad, said, “Ropeways will be the future of urban transportation.
Not only environmentally friendly, they also cost it.
The land for roads is rare day after day and the traffic burden continues to increase.
Ropeways are The best choice and they are very possible between Vaishali and Nagar Mohan station.
