Mumbai: Mumbai Police on Wednesday demanded Bajrang Dal workers who were protesting the naming of a sports complex in Malad Mumbai after Tipu Sultan.
Reacting to the situation, the Minister of Maharashtra Aslam Shaikh alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sent thugs to malign the country because there is no conflict in the name of Tipu Sultan in the last 70 years.
“There is no conflict in the name of Tipu Sultan in the last 70 years.
Today, the BJP has sent thugs to malign the country and did not let the developing world by creating a Ruckus on project naming.
We do not need to enter into controversy Nomenklatures,” he told the media.
Earlier on Tuesday, BJP Mla Atul Bhatkhalkar also pledged to oppose naming the sports complex in Malad Mumbai after Tipu Sultan and guaranteed to replace the name with the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj if they come to power in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
The inauguration of the park on behalf of Mysore Ruler 18th century Tipu Sultan at the Republic Day by Congress leader and Guardian Minister of Mumbai Aslam Shaikh in his election has sparked controversy.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the VHP Shriraj Nair said that naming the complex after Tipu Sultan is done with the intent to disturb the peace in the city.
