Kolkata: Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) will explore the alternative method of water aeration in Rabindra Sarobar, rather than keeping a fountain in the water body, and ensuring the rowing courses are not disturbed.
Guarantee to take part in the request by the rowing club and state paddle association mounted fountains to rejuvenate lake water will kill sports here because this is the only rowing course in Bengal where many have learned paddling and winning in sub-junior and junior categories at the national level.
At the meeting held at Lake Club, representatives of the paddle brotherhood showed a map of the rowing course to the Director of KMDA MAITH Supriya and explained how the fountains were installed to carry out water and increase the dissolved oxygen levels were danger for rower and their equipment.
They offer to see alternatives, non-intrusive ways to charge water without blocking courses.
“This installation will damage the rowing activities in the state,” said Secretary WBRA Aniruddha Mookerjee, added a rowing course needed to freely because the athletes were not facing where they durated.
“Fountains can hurt renders and damage expensive equipment.” KMDA’s source said the agency would consider the problem when the fountain was installed to improve the quality of the lake water and did not interfere with sports activities, carried out there for almost nine decades.
“We have asked the club to let the fountain operate until Sunday.
Meanwhile, we will look at the alternative,” Kmda official said.
The decision must be taken immediately because the national trial is scheduled for November 17 and participants will start practicing.
Earlier on that day, Green Bonani activist Kakkar wrote to CEO Kmpa Antara Acharya, showing the paddle itself helped aeration because it involves water with paddles.
“Experts say bleaching powder solutions and potassium permanganat may be worthy of exploring.
This method is used by kits for years to date,” he said.
