Chennai: Customs officials at Chennai International Airport have confiscated 3,125 kg of gold, worth Rs 1.33 Crore, and arrest two passengers.
Based on certain intelligence inputs received from the Directorate of Income Intelligence (DRI), customs officials intercept two male passengers, aged 34 and 35 years, who arrived from Dubai in Emirates flights (EK-542) on Friday, said a press release on Saturday .
On the list of listed baggage, 11 24K purity gold cables, weighing 3125 grams and worth Rs 1.33 Crore, found hidden.
This gold cable is coated with silver to avoid detection by customs.
The restored gold was confiscated based on the provisions of Customs Law, 1962.
