Coimbatore: sleuths of the Directorate of Intelligence Revenue (DRI) recently confiscated nearly 4 kg of gold worth Rs 1.92 Crore from passengers at Coimbatore Airport.
Electronic gadgets and foreign cigarettes worth RS 1.16 Crore are also confiscated from passengers.
Six passengers arriving at the airport from Sharjah were arrested in connection with these cases.
In a statement, officials said they received a tip that a large number of gold, electronic equipment and cigarettes on the number of trade were smuggled into the country through passengers on Monday.
A team reached the airport and detained suspicious passengers arrived in Arabic air flights.
When they were examined, gold was found hidden in their pocket bags and rectums.
