Rs 24 cr for mini stadium, Thackeray memorial

ULHASNAGAR: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has aproved an additional fund of Rs 25 crore for mini stadium with a memorial of Bal Thackeray at VTC ground in Ulhasnagar.
The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation is building a new mini stadium and in past had kept reserved Rs 22 crore for the same.
With additional Rs 25 crore, the total amount available is Rs 47 crore.
The mini-stadium will come up at VTC ground constructed in the year 1987 which in 2016 was named as Balasaheb Thackeray Stadium.
Following the demands of players and local politicians later the civic body decided to convert the ground into a mini-stadium with modern facilities and a memorial of Bala Saheb Thackeray.
For the same, last year the UMC sanctioned Rs 12 crore and Rs 10 crore was sanctioned by the Urban Development Department while for complete work additional fund of Rs 25 crore was required.
Looking at fund crunch with civic body, Mayor Leelabai Aashan and MLA Balaji Kinikar raised the issue with Lok Sabha MP Dr Shrikant Shinde who on Monday got sanctioned additional funds of Rs.
25.00 crore from MMRDA.
Dr Shinde said he has instructed MMRDA to give technical approval for this work and implement the tender process as soon as possible.
The memorial will have the entire history of Shiv Sena and the journey of Balasaheb, the exhibition of his cartoons and information about Balasaheb, his comic, literary museum and restaurant will be set up there.
The Mini Stadium will be set up in 6072 square meters.
The mini stadium will include Holy Ball, Football Court, Basketball Court, Badminton Court, 400 Meter Runway, Swimming Pool, Garden and Ampi Theatre.
