HYDERABAD: In perhaps the most high valued narcotics seizure at the Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths arrested two women peddlers from Uganda and Zambia and seized 12 kilos of Heroin worth Rs 78 crore from their possession.
Acting on specific information, DRI team kept a watch at RGI Airport and intercepted a woman passenger from Uganda who arrived from Zimbabwe via Doha.
“The woman came to the airport on Saturday to pickup her missing luggage and we have found about four kilos of heroin neatly stuffed in duct taped packets between the walls of the suitcase,” a DRI official said.
While the accused is being interrogated about the gang of peddlers, another woman peddler who arrived with a consignment of Heroin was Intercepted on Sunday at the RGI by DRI.
“The second accused is identified as Makumba Carol from Zambia.
She arrived from Doha in Qatar Airways flight QR500 at 2.30 am on Sunday,” said a DRI official.
The peddler opted for green channel and during the baggage screening DRI team noticed suspicious material.
“Brown powder was concealed inside the drum of plastic pipe roll carried in checked in baggage.
We retrieved eight kilos of the powder from the drum.
Chemical test confirmed that it was heroin,” a DRI team member said.
The value of the seized Heroin in international market is Rs 78 crore and DRI team arrested the peddlers.
