Mumbai: Central Railway and Western Railway together collect RS 7 Crore in a fine of ticketless travelers on the suburban train in the past four months, show statistics available on Sundays.
Commuter activists and passengers say that it is “unfair” not to allow office visitors and daily workers on the local train and which travels without tickets “in despair”.
Activists say that as a local train service is the life lane of Mumbaikars, Lakh depends on him to travel to workplaces such as shops, offices and business homes from distant places and these are among those fined in the last four months.

The government has opened shops, restaurants and offices after the second lock.

“Hundreds of workers, workers from unorganized sectors and also office visitors depend on the lubricant train to travel from far away to their workplaces.

It is not practical to stop the train and hope people travel through roads to work.
