Chandigarh: The Punjab government announced on Thursday that it would give a cash award from RS One Crore to each of the State Hockey players, which was part of the Indian men’s team who won a bronze medal at the Olympics.
The Minister of Sports Punjab Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi made an announcement after India beat Germany 5-4 in the bronze play-off.
“On this historic day for #indianhockey, I am happy to announce the cash award of each RS 1 for 4M # Punjab we are waiting for you to celebrate a deserved medal at #olympics,” Sodhi tweeted.

The other is HarmanPreet Singh, Ruplicinder Pal Singh, Hardik Singh, Shamsher Singh, Singh Dilpreet, Gurjant Singh and Mandeep Singh.
On Friday, Sodhi has announced that hockey players from countries participating in the Tokyo Olympics will get Rs 2.25 Crore each if the team won a gold medal.
Before this bronze, India has won the Olympic medal with hockey back in 1980 matches in Moscow.
Sodhi said he was very proud of the performance of the Indian Hockey team at the Tokyo Olympics.
“It’s time to enjoy & celebrate historical bronze.
As Minister of Sports #Punjab is my job & pride problems to promote, encourage national sports & motivate flag bearers,” Sodhi said in another tweet.
The Chairman of the Punjab Minister Amarinder Singh also congratulated the team for his achievement.
