Nagpur: Causeway Cement across the Pili tributary in North Nagpur, was built to connect Chitrashala Nagar with Kalamna, was washed in the rain last week.
The Department of Public Works Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has spent RS7 Lakh to build a bridge just six months ago.
The population in this part of the city, including 24 regions such as Chitrashala, Laxmi Nagar, Parvati Nagar, Ganesh Nagar etc.
faced severe difficulties due to losing important relationships to the city, local residents told toi.
These locality have faced a lot of discomfort due to the lack of bridges to reach the city (side of Kalamna), because they have to take a long detour.
Despite following up with NMC and improved Nagpur repairs, nothing had happened for years.
Without good responses from local civilians and civil institutions, residents previously made temporary arrangements by placing wooden beams above Nullah.
But it caused many accidents because the wood slab was often tilted.
After several memorandum, the local Corporator Sheshrao Gotmare was sanctioned for the construction of the cement bridge on Nullah in 2020.
The PWD Lakadganj zone received the job through a private contractor.
NMC has also put a large pipe under the bridge to ensure the flow of free water on the bridge only means for light vehicles.
But the bridge failed to hold back heavy rain first, with one end of the bridge, said Local activist Shahnawaz Sheikh.
Other residents, Sitaram Sahu, questioned the quality of bridge construction.
He accused that the bridge was not built properly, and sub-standard materials were used by contractors.
Lakadanj Zone Executive Engineer Rakshamwar does not respond to TOI text and text messages.
Gotmare admitted that the pipe under the bridge had come out and as a result one end of the bridge surrendered.
It will be fixed soon, the corporators are convincing.
