New Delhi: Olympic Bronze Olympics Bajrang Punia will not compete in the upcoming Wrestling World Championship after suggested six weeks rehabilitation to treat the ligament tears he suffered in his right knee in the Tokyo match.
The World Championship will be held in Oslo, Norway Starting October 2-10 and Bajrang will not be able to start training mats until the rehabilitation program is complete.
Bajrang recently underwent MRI’s scan to find out the extent of the injury he suffered in Russia in June before the Olympics and consulted with Dr.
Dinshaw Pardiwala, who headed the Sports Medical Center at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Mumbai Hospital.
“This is a tearful tear and I have been asked to take a six-week rehabilitation program by Dr.
Dinshaw.
I will not be able to compete in the World Championship,” Bajrang told PTI.
There are no ranking rating programs lined up in the rest of the year and Bajrang said the season was over.
“The world is the only major championship at the calendar for this year.
I don’t see myself competing in other tournaments this season,” he added.
Bajrang has suffered an injury to run the Tokyo game when he competed in the Russian tournament – Aliyev in June.
Bajrang had lost his semi-final against Abulmazhid Kudiev, who held India’s right leg and pulled suddenly in the first period of the fight.
The impact was influential on the right knee of Bajrang and a limp grappler immediately came out of the mat but competed at the Olympics and won bronze in the 65kg category.
“Because it was my first Olympics and I dreamed of winning the Olympic medal, I competed with pain in Tokyo.
I have to do it.” Bajrang said he did not consult a specific physiotherapist for rehabilitation.
“I did it myself in Sonimat The 27-year-old said he wanted to continue the Georgian coach Shako Bentinidis, who has now gone to his country because the Indian wrestling Federation (WFI) has not offered a fresh contract to him.
WFI will hold a meeting with wrestlers to collect feedback on all foreign trainers involved with Indian wrestlers before deciding their fresh contract.
While Bajrang was trained with Bentinidis, the Olympic Silver Medal Ravi Dahiya had a personal coach at Kamal Malikov Russia.
Deepak Punia also has a Russian coach at Murad Gaidarov, who was expelled from Tokyo for attacking the referee, who had led a bronze medal reducer that India had lost to San Marino’s Myles Nazim Amine.
WFI then stopped Gaidarov’s service.
Sources in WFI said coach Ravi Malikov would definitely get a new contract and even when the federation was still not fully satisfied with the performance of Bentinidis, it would still consider the request of Bajrang if he wanted to continue.
