Moscow: Russian media regulator has blocked 49 websites related to cremin criticism which was imprisoned by Alexei Navalny, his allies said Monday, because the pressure increased on the movement of opposition leaders ahead of the election of parliament in the fall.
Navalny, Domestic Critic President Vladimir Putin, was arrested in January after he returned to Russia for months of care in Germany for the poisoning of nerve agents he blamed on the Kremlin.
He was then imprisoned for two and a half years on charges of old fraud and his organization was prohibited as “extremist”, limiting members and sponsors from running in parliamentary elections in September.
“With the decision of the Attorney General’s Office, 49 websites are blocked simultaneously,” said Navalny Aide Leonid Volkov on his telegram channel on Monday.
The blocked website includes the Navalny website, the Anti-Corruption Foundation website (FBK), the main allied website and Navalny regional offices were dissolved earlier this year.
AFP reporter said the Navalny website was not available in Russia.
“Long night knife,” Volkov wrote refers to military-blooded cleansing and political rivals launched by Adolf Hitler in Germany.
Volkov said the only website that was not blocked by the State Sensor was a “smart voting”, which was dedicated to the strategy proposed by Navalny to return the best candidates to defeat the Politicians regarding the Kremlin in elections.
This tactic has seen United Russia’s ruling party losing a number of seats in recent local elections.
