Moscow: Russia reported record daily count of 180 071 new coronavirus infection, a surge tenfold from a month ago as a variant omicron highly contagious throughout the country.
The figure released by the Task Force Coronavirus State on Sunday was about 2,800 cases more than that recorded in the previous day and continued the surge that began in mid-January, when the new cases every day is about 17,000.
Although the number of infections increased dramatically in recent weeks, the task force reported that the deaths daily from Covid-19 holding steady or slightly down: 661 deaths recorded during the last 24 hours, compared with 796 in January for the entire course of a pandemic, the task force has reported 12.8 million infections and 335 414 deaths.
President Vladimir Putin said last week that his government is considering loosening some restrictions Coronavirus, although no infections are soaring.
Putin told Russian Best Business Association that the authorities had not planned locking or other additional restrictions due to the surge.
In addition, the government is considering to lift restrictions for those who come into contact with patients Covid-19.
Existing legislation mandates that people in that position must own isolation for seven days.
Facing the biggest viral spike, the Russian authorities are generally opposed to impose major restrictions and repeatedly rejected the idea of introducing a lockdown.
Russia has only one, locking six weeks in 2020, and in October 2021 a lot of people are also commanded to keep working for about a week.
But in addition, life in most countries remained largely normal, with even mandate that mask loosely enforced.
In recent weeks, more and more areas of Russia has started to introduce limits for those aged under 18 years, as officials noted that the current surge affects children more than ever.
In many areas, schools have switched to distance learning or an extended holiday for students.
In St.
Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city, minors had been temporarily banned from most public places.
Russia started to vaccinate children aged 12-17 only last month with Sputnik M Jab developed in the country, which is the same as the Sputnik V but contains a smaller dose.
According to media reports and social media users, only a small number of vaccines for adolescents are provided.
Only about half of Russia’s 146 million population have been vaccinated so far, even though the country is one of the first in the world to launch a shot Covid-19.
