Moscow: Russia said on Friday it would like to help start peace talks between the sides of the conflicting in Afghanistan after a fierce clash between Afghan and Taliban troops near the border with Pakistan.
Taliban fighters seized the border area on Wednesday, the second intersection on the border with Pakistan and one of the most important goals they had achieved during rapid gains throughout the country because US forces fell after 20 years of conflict.
“I want to confirm Russian interest in facilitating dialogue between parties in Afghanistan with the aim of ending the war for years and establishing Afghanistan as a peaceful, independent and neutral country,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
Lavrr spoke at a conference with senior Central Asian officials in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.
The US exit from Afghanistan was a security headache for Moscow whose fighting fights with fighting could encourage refugees to the backyard of Central Asia and disrupt the southern defensive side.
Russian officials previously called on all sides of the Afghan conflict to show restraints and said that Russia and the Collective LED Moscow (CSTO) LED security agreement organization would act firmly to prevent Tajikistan border aggression with Afghanistan if needed.
Russia on Wednesday urged Afghan officials to launch the right negotiations with the Taliban about the country’s future before it was too late.
