Moscow: Russia on Thursday urged Tajikistan and Afghanistan to maintain tranquility after reports of tension on their general border.
“We observed with concern to foster tensions in the Tajik-Afghanistan relationship against the background of a rough statement by the leaders of the two countries,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexei Zaytsev was quoted by DW News.
The report has also emerged about the spread of the armed forces by both countries at the general border.
“According to information from Taliban, tens of thousands of special forces units have been deployed in the border [North] Afghan Province Takhar,” added Zaytsev.
President Tajikistan, Emomali Rakhmon, has refused to recognize the Taliban government, accusing a group of human rights violations.
Responding to the Taliban asked Dushanbe not to interfere in Afghanistan’s internal problems, DW News reported.
Meanwhile, Russia, who maintained a military base in Tajikistan, was worried that militants and drug smugglers could take advantage of an unstable situation created by the fall of the government recently in Kabul.
