Berlin: The court in Austria punished a man of Russian murder on Friday for the death of the shooting of execution from a 43-year-old Chechnya on the outskirts of Vienna last year that attracted international attention in the midst of murder has been politically motivated.
A regional court spokesman in Kornneuburg said the judges reached a round verdict in this case during a one-day trial.
The defendant, an ethnic 48-year-old Chechen who was not named for privacy reasons, was sentenced to living in prison, said Wolfgang Schuster-Kramer court.
Defense said he would appeal, his verdict, he added.
The member of the Chechnyan exile community in Austria said the murder victims in July 2020 may have been targeted to criticize the authoritarian leader of the Russian Chechnya region, Ramzan Kadyrov.
But the court was presented without real evidence to prove that the murder was politically motivated, Schuster-Kramer said.
The prosecutor said the victim was shot six times, including once in a head from a short distance, shortly after the men met at an industrial plantation at Gerasdorf, northeast of Vienna.
Blood from victims and firing particles was found in the clothing of the defendant, who denied responsibility for the murder.
Defense lawyers instead blamed the shooting at the victim’s bodyguard, Austria Orf’s public broadcaster reported.
There were several attacks on Chechen abroad in recent years.
Other Russian men were being tried in Germany for Brazen’s daylight in Berlin from Ethnic Chechen from Georgia in 2019.
The victim had fought Russian forces in Chechnya and fled to Germany in 2016.
The prosecutors had been assigned to kill.
