Berlin: A Russian diplomat was found dead in October outside the embassy of the country in Berlin, appearing on Friday.
The man, whose non-ladies’ body was found on October 19 on the sidewalk by the police, seemed to fall on his death from the embassy complex, according to Spiegel Weekly who first reported the case.
A spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry said this case was “known by the Ministry” but would not provide further details.
Confirming death, the Russian embassy called it “tragic accident”.
“All procedures related to repatriating diplomat’s body back to their homeland are immediately resolved by enforcement of responsible German laws and medical authorities in accordance with current practices,” said the Embassy in a statement.
The Russian mission but said it “considers speculation that has appeared in a number of Western media” for diplomat deaths “to be truly wrong”.
Diplomats were identified as the second 35-year-old secretary at the Embassy by Spiegel.
But the magazine said the German authorities believed that he was also an agent of the Russian Russian Office FSB.
He was also reportedly related to high-ranking officials of the second Directorate of the FSB – a unit that Western secret service was involved in the murder of a Georgia National in Central Berlin in 2019.
