Moscow: Russia said that on Monday it had launched a new hypersonic cruise missile from submarine, the latest test of the president of a weapon that emerged Vladimir Putin had been nicknamed “invincible”.
Moscow in recent years touting the development of weapons that hoped to provide excellence in the weapons competition with the United States when planting tensions with the West.
Hypersonics can travel more than five times the speed of sound and maneuver in the middle of the flight, making it much more difficult to track and intercept than traditional projectiles.
Military words on Monday have fired zircon missiles from the Severodvinsk nuclear submarine and reached the target of tests at the Barents Sea in Russian Arctic.
“The launch of the Zircon missile test from a nuclear submarine is considered successful,” the defense ministry said in a statement.
The Ministry released a grained video record that showed missile flares illuminating the night sky.
Zircon has undergone several tests in recent years, including the launch of Frigate Admiral Gorshkov.
Putin uses the nation’s address in 2018 to reveal new hypersonic weapons, including Zircon, saying it can be about the target in the sea and on land with a range of 1,000 kilometers.
Zircon looks set to join the Avangard Hypersonic Glide vehicle which was put into services in 2019 and Kinzhal (dagin) missiles which were launched in the air at Arsenal Russia.
The launch came a week after North Korea said he had tested new hypersonic weapons, became the latest country to join the hypersonic weapons race.
Experts agree that, for now at least, Russia has the advantage in their development.
