Beirut: Russian air strike in the East Syrian desert area has killed 11 members of the Islamic group, a war monitor reported Thursday.
Syrian observatories for human rights, which monitor victims of old conflicts, said last night strikes focused on an area between Palmyra and Al-Sukhna.
“Members of the Jihadis organization hide in caves in this area,” said the Head of the Hamba Observatory Abdel Rahman.
The strike killed 11 was a warrior and injured around 20 others, some of them seriously, he said.
Abdel Rahman said he had calculated a total of 229 Russian air strikes against the target in the Syrian Desert this year.
Thursday’s strike was the most deadly of their kind since November, when the observatory reported 16 dead in the Jiesta Jihad.
The Caliphate of the State Islamic State Group once stretched across most of Syria and Iraq and gave millions of residents.
A long and deadly military battle was led by Syrian and Iraq forces with support from the United States and other forces finally defeated the Proto-State Jihadist in March 2019.
The remnants mostly returned to their hiding place which continued to harass Syria government and allies.
This group is considered trying to secure funding sources through trade and extortion, encouraging observers to warn the rise of jihadists in the region.
