JOHANNESBURG: South Africa is ready to reopen school from Monday because the Covid-19 numbers reduced and measure has been made to reduce transmission, said the elementary education Minister Angie Motshekga.
“Depending on the confirmation by the President tomorrow after the Cabinet, as a sector there is an agreement throughout the council, that we are ready to reopen the school on Monday,” said the Xinhua news agency to quote on Saturday.

“This sector continues to commit, and at any time we are ready to maintain a balance between saving lives and livelihoods, while fighting with the Coronavirus pandemic,” said Motshekga.
He said the education sector had managed 89 percent vaccination of 517,000 people.
“Pandemic Covid-19 has caused serious interference in this sector; and our plans do not always disappear as we mean.
However, this does not prevent us from continuing plans, because we are sure that at a point, we will find it way to return to business normal.
“Earlier this year we published a school calendar for 2022.
As usual, we followed the necessary steps involving public participation to get input,” he said.
Motshekga regrets that 180 schools have been broken down or damaged since the beginning of the year and during recent protests.
“It’s unprecedented, and we are worried as a sector, that the highly needed school infrastructure is damaged.
This is a serious setback, because this sector has been under pressure to provide appropriate school facilities.
“We want to express our deep worries about what happened at our school in recent weeks,” added the minister.
