New Delhi: Minister of External Affairs (EAM) S Jaishankar on Saturday exchange perspectives on the situation in Myanmar with the Brunei Darussalam partner Dato Haji Erywan, which is also a special ASEAN messenger for Myanmar.
“Appreciate the call from the Brunei FM II Dato Haji Erywan.
Exchange perspectives about the situation in Myanmar.
India supports the ASEAN initiative,” Tweeted Jaisankar.
India previously welcomed Erywan’s appointment as a special envoy to Myanmar by the Association of Southeast Asian (ASEAN) and stressed that he would continue to support the recovery of the democratic process in Burma.
In April, ASEAN leaders have urged the head of the Myanmar Senior Military Chief General Min Aung Hlaing, who took power in the coup on February 1, to end the hard oppression in the country.
At the top, 10 ASEAN members have reached consensus at five points.
These include: there will be “direct termination of violence” and restraint by all parties; All parties will begin “constructive dialogue” to “peaceful solutions for the benefit of the people”; Special envoys from ASEAN seats will mediate dialogue; ASEAN will provide humanitarian assistance, and special envoys and delegates must visit Myanmar to meet all parties.
This meeting was held in the Indonesian capital Jakarta, a direct meeting of the block leaders since the beginning of the Pandemic Coronavirus.
On February 1, Myanmar’s military overthrew the civilian government and expressed an emergency throughout the year, which was then extended until August 2023.
The coup triggered a massive demonstration throughout the country that had been fulfilled with hard oppression, producing 962 deaths.
