S Kolkata & Airport Area Roll under Waterlogging, Snarls

Kolkata: The city received an intermittent shower on Thursday under the impact of the rainy season which is now stretching between Punjab and North Bay of Bengal.
Rain is moderate in several parts of the city and light in other areas.
Met Office said even though it would continue to rain, the chances of heavy rain were low.
Kolkata received 97 mm and 28 mm rain on Wednesday and Thursday.
Intermittent shower makes waterlogging scenarios worse for some environment of South Kolkata and the edges.
Kalighat, Chetla, Jodhpur Park, Golf Garden and Garia received several heavy rain spells that caused flooding in several stretches in this area.
For residents of several environments in Behala, the situation became worse after the rain spell on Thursday.
According to a KMC drainage official, when the Civic body watered the storm water from low Behala areas, fresh shower made the task difficult for them.
“Even though we have managed to get stagnant water from a large stretch of Parnognee, we cannot do it in an area like Mondalpara or Kailash Ghosh Row under the Belt Silpara because these areas lie low and therefore fresh baths make our tasks difficult,” he said.
Lunch, a resident of Golf Garden, complained of slow storm water even though KMC recently dedicated drainage pumping stations for the area.
Likewise, Kidderpore residents also complained about Civic’s body inhalition in draining stagnant rainwater.
“Every time heavy rain occurs, we feel very worried,” said Munna Ansari, a local resident.
The flooded stretch near Haldiram is no better situation in the area of VIP Road.
It was very bad at Haldiram closer to the airport and the chinar park parts.
The severe waterlogging triggered traffic snarls on VIP road.
Bidnagar Officials Corporation said that there was extra pressure on the drainage pumping station to pour out rain water from the Taman Chinar area because where stretching roads in Haldiram were more implied until around Thursday afternoon.
Commuter misery increased on Thursday after the rain spell leaving most of the city roads inundated.
