Salem: The authorities of the government of Salem Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital have divert 780 beds previously allocated for Covid patients to other uses after decreasing new cases reported in the last few weeks.
Previously, 1,400 beds were allocated for covid patients.
Authorities say the number of beds in the Covid ward can be increased anytime if necessary.
In April and May, the number of beds increased.
“Initially GH had 400 beds and then was upgraded to 600.
In May, the number has increased to 1,400,” said a senior doctor.
The district recorded its peak with 1,492 cases on May 29 during the second wave.
New cases reported in the district have been in two digits for several days.
The hospital currently has 57 covid patients in the non-oxygen ward, 170 on the bed of oxygen and 58 in the ICU.
