Kolkata: The BF Block off First Avenue close to Baisakhi crossing in Salt Lake has been declared as a micro containment zone.
In all, six persons living on a stretch that has seven houses are infected and these houses have been demarcated as a micro containment zone.
There are now two micro containment zones in the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area, the other one set up in the Kestopur Rabindra Palli locality.
“Five infected persons belong to one family.
These cases were reported 10 days ago.
Another person in the neighbourhood has also been infected,” BMC Ward 31 coordinator Supriyo Chakraborty said.
Following instructions from the health department authorities, police have set up a barricade to cordon off the seven houses along with a police picket from Thursday night.
“The families residing within the micro containment zone are asking the police in case of any requirement and need.
From our end, we are conducting sanitization drive along the stretch.
We are collecting information from all the houses, asking the families to give details on the number of residents along with domestic help and caregivers, if any.
We will inoculate those who are yet to be vaccinated within the next few days,” Chakraborty said, adding that already 1,700 persons from his ward have been inoculated from both free and paid vaccination camps and another camp will be held very soon where another batch of over 200 people will be vaccinated.
No new case has been reported from ward 31 in the last seven days, said a civic official.
Overall, Covid cases in the BMC area covering Salt Lake and Rajarhat have come down drastically in the last one month.
From over 4,500 active cases in mid-May, there are only about 400 active cases now.
“The number of cases has reduced drastically in the past fortnight We are urging people to keep following Covid safety protocols,” said a BMC official.
The total number of people affected by Covid since March last year in the BMC area stands close to 40,000, out of which close to 39,000 have recovered and 328 have passed away.
BMC is continuing to vaccinate 18+ age group people falling in the priority group, which includes frontline health workers, domestic help, transport workers, hawkers and market retailers.
