Bhubaneswar: After Cuttack, it is the West Odisha city of Sambalpur who seems to have liked the Silver Filigree Tableau.
The Nandapara Sital Sashti Yatra Committee, Sambalpur, has placed an order for Tabron-Cum-Tableau (Parbha) with a Master craftsmen of the National Pankaj Sahoo award winner from Cuttack.
Kerawang’s work, cost around Rs 1 Crore, will be filled with at least 500 pieces of American diamonds each 12 to 14 carats, to obtain from jewelry in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
“Parbha” will be used by Lord Shiva and Goddess Parbati for “Nagar Parikrama” during the famous Sasal Samal Festival, which will be held in June.
“The committee approached me after seeing the 8.5 ft tableau that I made for Dewi Pathaeswari from Sambalpur,” said Sahoo, who also made silver keepsakes given during the Hockey Men’s World Cup.
More than 100 kg of silver will be used for tables which will be 12 feet high and 10 feet wide.
“People in our region have donated money and silver to ‘parbha’.
The initial estimate is around Rs 70 Lakh, but now it has risen to RS 1 Crore with a silver price increase,” said Samir Ranjan Babu, President of the Nandapara Committee Sital Sashti Yatra .
Every American diamond will cost Rs 700 to Rs 800 per piece.
Although working in Tablo began in 2018, it must be stopped during a pandemic just to continue in September this year.
At present, 10 to 12 craftsmen are working on it.
About 60kg of silver has been made and handed over to the committee members so that they install on metal frames.
“We have planned for Tablo 12 to 13 years ago and has made gold jewelery worth Rs 26 lakh for the gods,” Babu said.
