Samsung Electronics has announced that it has developed the first DOUBLE DOUBLE 2-GIGABIT DOUBLE DATA (NM) (NM) (LPDDR5X) for use in high-speed data services including 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and Metaverse.
In 2018, Samsung had introduced the first 8GB LPDDR5 DRAM in the industry.
According to the company, the DRAM LPDDR5X 16GB is the next generation cellular DRAM designed to increase speed, capacity, and power savings for 5G applications in the future.
South Korean technology giant claims that DRAM LPDDR5x will offer data processing speeds of up to 8.5 gigabits per second (Gbps), which is more than 1.3 times faster than 6.4Gbps LPDDR5.
Utilizing the 14nm Industrial DRAM process technology, it will also use around 20% less power than the LPDDR5 memory, claiming the company.
In addition, the 16GB LPDDR5X chip will allow up to 64 gigabytes (GB) per memory package, to satisfy the increasing demands for high-capacity cellular DRAMs throughout the world.
“In recent years, the hypercorrect market segment such as AI, Augmented Reality (AR) and Metaverse, which rely on high-scale data processing is very fast, has grown rapidly,” said Sangjoon Hwang, senior vice president and DRAM head design team in Samsung Electronics.
