Pune: Members of the Transgender Community began receiving Covid-19 shots at the Sancheti Hospital on Monday, with 169 vaccinations on the first day.
On Tuesday, India Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawalla said he would ensure that the vaccine was available at the Sancheti Hospital for the transgender community.
Poonawala said the public must be given dignity and equality of rights in the community.
According to a press statement issued by Sancheti Hospital, health facilities have established an exclusive vaccination center for members of the transgender community from July 12-15 in connection with Vaxall and Robin Hood Organizations.
Parag Sancheti, Chair of the Hospital, Pune, said they helped the government in a quick vaccination drive.
“Health care is the right of all citizens and vaccinations is no different.
We are happy to host the drive to vaccinate the transgender community and also all who don’t even have evidence of identification,” said Sancheti.
