Chennai: Cleaning the deck for the use of river sand in construction after about a decade, the Tamil Nadu government fixes 1,000 per unit as a basic sand, and launched a set of guidelines for supplying sand with “fair and transparent ways”.
To start, the Department of Water Resources allows 16 mining trucks and sand mine 21 Bullock, which has environmental permits (EC), to operate.
After this, as many as 63 mine trucks and eight bull train sand mines, which are in various stages to get EC, will be allowed to operate according to the existing protocol, the order said by Sandeep Saxena, Head of the Supplementary Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources.
Up to a decade ago, the Sand River was the main construction material, but it grew rare about five years ago.

Only after supplying sand to booking online by the public – between 8am – 2:00 – can order sand at 2PM and 17:00 depending on the availability of the remaining sand, the Order said.
The construction industry was fast to welcome the reopening of the river sand mine, but warned the government to the lawyer.
